Anumuzing!
Hi ,
It's me , Anu .Among many things that i like to learn and enjoy , i am passionate about Arts and Crafts , especially painting .I have my musings .So , i decided to pen some thoughts to start with .This is so amusing .Wow ! Amazing !!
Anu.Musings.Anumuzingz!
Since , this is my first blog , i will seriously not try to complicate this .
As a kid , i used to draw and paint .However , in the midst of growing and learning to make for a living , a job really , i lost touch with the pencil and the brush .Then , i got married and had kids .So from a kid , now i was a mother .In fact , 2 kids .Supporting the Government on the "hum do humare do " slogan .
My husband belongs to Bhubaneswar .Since last 14 years ( exile did you say ?) , we travel to his hometown at least once a year , sometimes maybe thrice as well .The visits are during the time ,the sons have holidays .The eldest was born there so he has a special nostalgia attached to it .
I belong to Meerut .But we rarely holiday there .It does not offer much in terms of tourist places and food options .
Coming back to Bhubaneswar , Orissa and our holidays , we typically visit Puri and Pipli all the time .Orissa has the most wonderful of paintings in various art forms and styles .Even though i had stopped drawing , every year i would visit Pipli among other places and buy all sorts of art form .Drawings , sketching , paintings etc ...My favorite is what is called "patta chitra " , basically painting on a leaf - The art is so delicate , one falls in love at first sight .I often have discussions with the artisans there and am amazed at how humble they are with such prodigious talent .So , i continued to be in touch with ART .
My friends and I are also part of NGO ,INSEED .The bunch of us leave no stone un-turned to make this world a better place .From environmental concerns to supporting women and children's health and education , we pitch wherever we can have a significant impact .
But more on INSEED and our contributions later .However , i shall narrate a couple of instances related to our group.
We needed funds to sponsor the education of children from a slum in our locality .I stay at Thakur Village .Yes , we have slums in village as well.
Our group decided to not only raise funds for the children but also use this opportunity to provide a means of an income to the tribal folk living nearby .This was novel for me .So we approached artisans of "Warli " paintings .We used their work on various items for reselling to corporate and other sponsors both directly and through special exhibitions .In addition , we also capitalized and helped teach young kids learn this traditional art form .
I did too.
So , this triggered the lurking passion of Art .
I enrolled myself into an Art class three years back .One of the best decisions of my life apart from joining INSEED as regards pursuing a passion .What helped is that my sons also enrolled and it was like a good happy family together though our class timings were different .
Its been three years now .We have participated in 2 shows organized by our teacher Jaywanti Prabhu Tendulkar .It has been nothing short of fantastic !!!
Now i am learning water colour painting and enjoying the flow .
Did i not mention Art and Craft ? I have been discussing only art now .
At INSEED we also produce "handmade" brilliance in the form of "diyas" ,"bags" , "rakhis" and many other craft items used to raise funds for the under privileged .We always get an encouraging response and these items sell like hot cakes .No! We are not into bakery yet , but you never know ..That sounds like a good idea though.
Most of us have microwave ovens , maybe we can teach the young girls from the slums on how to bake their cake and eat it too .Both stomach filling and passion fulfilling .
I plan to cover all items mentioned today , later on in my blog .But i have never written before and so am absolutely delighted that INSEED and the Arts have triggered something new to chase as well .
Lastly , during our holiday to Baleswar , in Orissa in March this year ( Please dont call it Balasore , my hubby who used to be chubby but is not anymore will be sore about it and may not be able to soar the high notes of his hard rock and metal songs - basically NOISE ! Like , "heavy metal " seriously , that is singing or construction - He does not understand Art very well ...so i leave him to his construction ....like building bridges sort of ..but there are no troubled waters ) i managed to come across , what is called " sabai grass " made handicraft .I have seen those items before but the variety of designs and applications one particular manufacturer displayed was very impressive .
So much so that i booked a trunk load of stuff and had it delivered by train to Mumbai .
Currently , i am studying about Sabai Grass.Hope i soon find a breakthrough to take it forward somehow .
Wish me luck .
Remember .
